An 18-year-old Union young man was killed in an accidental shooting in Newton.
Newton Police Chief Randy Patrick identified the victim as Keshune Donald, 18. He attended Union High School this past school year.
The incident occurred on Ora Street Sunday between 11:45 a.m. and noon.
“The two boys were playing with a gun, and it went off,” Patrick said. “No parent was home at the time of the incident.
Patrick said the bullet entered the victim’s right chest and went through his body. He was transported to Rush Hospital, where he was undergoing surgery Sunday. However, he passed away while in the hospital.
Damarion Thames, 14, of Newton was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault, but it was upgraded to manslaughter.
