A Newton County man is facing an indictment of arson after authorities alleged he set fire to a house last year.
According to a grand jury indictment filed Sept. 21, Heath Dryden Mayfield has been charged with arson-first degree. He was arrested on Nov. 2 and released to his own recognizance.
The indictment alleges that the suspect “did unlawfully, willfully, feloniously and maliciously set fire to a dwelling house, being the property of Shelby Chesney, but occupied by Heath Dryden Mayfield…”
The incident occurred on April 5, 2020. A trial date has not been set at this time.
