The Newton County School District regretfully announces the resignation of Dr. Tyler Hansford, Superintendent of Schools, effective June 30, 2024, at the conclusion of the current school year. Dr. Hansford served the district for a short tenure, citing personal reasons for this difficult decision.
During his time with the Newton County School District, Dr. Hansford is demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence, fostering a positive learning environment, and advancing the overall educational experience for students, with a “students first” approach. The district greatly appreciates his contributions and dedication to the betterment of our schools.
In a statement, Dr. Hansford expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Newton County community and emphasized the difficult choice to step down due to personal reasons. He stated, "It has been an honor to work with the dedicated educators, staff, and students of the Newton County School District. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, students, and community here. However, due to personal considerations, I believe it is in my best interest for me to resign at this time. I will give everything I have to the students, staff, and community of Newton County during the time I have left here and I am committed to being a friend and supporter going forward."
Dr. Hansford is set to return to the Union Public School District, his home district, where he has spent his entire career prior to July 1, 2023. The Newton County School District Board of Education will initiate the process of selecting the best person to fill the position permanently starting July 1. The board, and Dr. Hansford, are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the high standards of education for which the district is known.
The district extends its gratitude to Dr. Hansford for his service and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.
