NMSD Office of Special Education Public Meeting Notice
A public meeting for parents/guardians or persons knowledgeable of children with disabilities who attend Newton Municipal School District will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024. The meeting(s) will be held at the district’s Office of Special Education from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Parents/guardians or persons knowledgeable of children with disabilities residing in the district will have an opportunity to discuss the District’s IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) Part B and Preschool project application for school year 2024-2025. Newton Theatre Company Presents “Beyond a Joke”
Tickets are now on sale for the Newton Theatre Company’s presentation of the play “Beyond a Joke” at The Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton. Show dates and times are May 31 and June 1 at 7 pm., and June 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.NTCRoxy.com/tickets. Adults tickets are $15, while Youth tickets are $10. Highway 15 Yard Sale
The 7th Year of the Highway 15 Yard Sale will take place on the weekend of June 1 along Highway 15, from Newton to Maben, MS. This sale covers approximately 100 miles and includes 100-200 vendors, including food and drink vendors. Come enjoy!!
Free Summer School Meals at Newton Elementary School
The Newton Municipal School District is participating in the federally funded Summer Food Service Program, where they will be offering free meals to children 18 and under at the Newton Elementary Cafeteria from June 3-27. Breakfasts will be served from 7:30-8:30, and Lunches will be served from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. daily. Adults may also eat at a cost of $3 for breakfast and $5 for lunch. Free Summer Tutoring Program at Afternoon Adventure Learning Center
Afternoon Adventure Learning Center, located at 306 North Main Street in Newton, is offering a free summer tutoring program beginning Monday, June 3. The program will run Monday-Thursday, from 2-4 p.m. Included in the program is small group learning in reading and math, as well as enrichment activities and fieldtrips. Snacks will be provided. Instructors are Licensed and CPR Certified Teachers. Prepare your child for the future! Success starts here! ECPDD TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING FOR AGING PROGRAMS
The East Central Planning and Development District/Area Agency on Aging will hold a Public Hearing for Aging Programs on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. The meeting will be held in the Board Room of the East Central Planning and Development District office building located at 280 Commercial Drive, Newton, Mississippi.
The purpose of this hearing is to inform all interested persons and organizations about programs and services available for persons aged 60 and above in Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott, and Smith Counties. Also, the Mississippi Department of Human Services Division of Aging & Adult Services will discuss statewide initiatives for the 60+ population.
The goals and objectives for Fiscal Year October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025 will be discussed and an update of current year activities will be presented. Comments from the public will be welcomed.
Hickory Pick’n Flea Market Craft Show, Concert, and Outdoor Movie-Rescheduled to June 15
Hickory Pick’n Flea Market in Hickory will host a Craft Show beginning at 10 a.m. on June 15. Beginning at 5:30 that afternoon, Rydan Media and Sonshine Ministries will put on a free concert and an outdoor showing of the movie “Losing Hope: Finding Grace”.
Sip and Stitch hosted at Union Public Library
The Union Public Library will host Sip and Stitch on the fourth Tuesday of each month between the hours of 2-5 p.m. Sip and Stitch is a casual gathering of hand crafters.
