The Friends of Unity has announced that it will sponsor a Martin Luther King Jr. Day for the first time in several years.
Eva McDonald, one of the event’s planners, said the parade will be held in downtown Newton on Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. The parade route will follow the typical parade route in Newton, as it will include Main Street and Church Street. The lineup will start at 2:30 p.m. at the Newton High School practice field.
All churches, groups, businesses, and any other venue that would like to participate in the parade are welcome.
Several high school bands will be invited to participate this year. For more information about the event or instructions for entering the parade, please contact Eva L. McDonald at 601-917-9350 or Levera Chapman at 601-917-3346.
