The Newton County School District announced Tuesday the closure of all schools on Wednesday, April 10, following the passing of beloved 2nd-grade teacher Krissi Harris Munn.
In a notice to parents, the district expressed gratitude for their understanding and support during this time. The closure is intended to allow students, faculty, staff, and administration the opportunity to honor Munn's memory.
"The Newton County School District mourns the loss of Krissi Harris Munn, a beloved 2nd grade teacher at Newton County Elementary School," said Superintendent Tyler Hansford. "As are most of our staff members, Krissi was deeply rooted in the Newton County community. In response to this, we will close school on Wednesday, April 10, to allow staff and students to pay respects at Mrs. Munn’s funeral. We ask you to join us in keeping Mrs. Munn’s family, her students, and her colleagues in your thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead."
Cougar Connections, the after-school program, will also not convene on Tuesday, April 9, or Wednesday, April 10.
