Spring 2025 NCYO Baseball & Softball Registration
The final day to register and order uniforms for the Newton County Youth 2025 Spring Baseball and Softball Season will be Thursday, Feb. 18., Registration fees are $50 for the first child, $40 for each additional child, and a $20 facility fee per family. Uniforms, purchased through our vendor, will be available to try on at registration. Age requirements: Baseball cutoff is April 30; Softball cutoff is Jan. 1. Coaching volunteers are also needed.
City of Newton Mayor and Board of Aldermen Meeting
The next regularly called meeting of the City of Newton Mayoral and Board of Aldermen will be on Tuesday, Feb. 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Newton City Hall.
Union Public School District PreK Registration
Parents can now pick up PreK registration packets in the UES/UHS office between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Packets can be returned on Feb. 17-18 in the UES/UHS office between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. In order to be registered, you much bring the following: birth certificate (4-years-old before or on Sept. 1, 2025); social security card; current form 121 Immunizations; and 2 proofs of residency in Union Public School District (1 proof showing Township, Section, and Range). There are 60 available PreK spots. Parents/Guardians will be required to bring their PreK student back in June for PreK testing-that date will be provided at a later time.

Southern Pine’s Members Helping Members Program Application
Southern Pine Electric announced that the first-ever grant application period for its Members Helping Members program is now open. Organizations located in Newton County and the 10 other counties located in Southern Pine Electric’s service area are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, community-based or volunteer organizations, educational and civic groups, first responders, law enforcement agencies, and shelters that qualify as tax-exempt under 501(c)(3).
Three-Part Technology Sessions at Newton County Extension Office
The MSU Extension Newton County Office is offering a three-part series about technology for those that want to learn. The sessions will take place at the Newton County Extension Office at 65 7th Street in Decatur from 10 a.m. until noon. The session and dates are the following: Smartphone 101-Feb. 18; Technology After Death-March 18; and Introduction to A.I.-April 15. The cost to attend the sessions is free, but seating is limited. Newton City Youth Baseball, T-Ball, and Softball Registration is open now through Feb. 21 at Newton City Hall. Open to ages 4-12.
Middle School Art Show presented by ECCC
East Central Community College invites area middle school students to submit artwork to their Middle School Art Show. Submission deadline is Feb. 24. The types of art that can be submitted are paintings, ceramics (clay art), photography, printmaking, sculpture art, drawing, design (graphic art), and digital art (computer art). Your artwork can be any size that you want. When submitting your art, please attach a label on the back that includes you full name, the title of your artwork, the name of your school, your grade level, and the category (what kind of art is is). Tickets on Sale for the NTC Youth Production of “The Canterville Ghost”
Tickets are now on sale for the Newton Theatre Company’s Youth Production of “The Canterville Ghost”. Showtimes for the three play performances are as follows: 7 p.m. on Feb. 28, 7 p.m. on March 1, and 2 p.m. on March 2.
Tickets may be purchased at www.ntcroxy.com/tickets or you may reserve them at the door by calling 601-621-0033. Adult tickets are $15 and children ages 12 and under are $10. A small processing fee is applied for all online/card purchases. We look forward to seeing you at the Roxy!
Newton County Farmer’s Market Interest Meeting

Newton County Amnesty Day
The Newton County household hazardous waste collection Amnesty Day will take place on Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Newton County Coliseum (Show Barn). The address is 615 Coliseum Drive in Newton. This is a one-day event that is free to the public. For more information, please call 601-635-2393.

The Newton Chamber of Commerce invites all to the 22nd Annual Loose Caboose Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday, April 12. The deadline for vendors is March 14. Stop by Chamber office for a vendor application or find a printable form on the Newton Chamber Facebook page.
