Basketball Watch Party Hosted by Newton County MSU Alumni Chapter
Hang out with your Newton County Bulldog family at Los Parrilleros Mexican Grille and Bar in Newton as we watch the Men’s Mississippi State Basketball team take on Arkansas for the last regular season game on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. Stay for the whole game or stop by and visit! Meeting of the Busy Hands Quilt Guild
Members and friends of Busy Hands Quilt Guild will meet on Tuesday, March 11, in the Fellowship Hall of United Methodist Church in Decatur. Sit and Sew begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a brief business meeting at 11:30 a.m., and an afternoon program at 1 p.m. All interested community members are invited to attend our monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month.

Southern Pine’s Members Helping Members Program Application
Southern Pine Electric announced that the first-ever grant application period for its Members Helping Members program is now open. Organizations located in Newton County and the 10 other counties located in Southern Pine Electric’s service area are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, community-based or volunteer organizations, educational and civic groups, first responders, law enforcement agencies, and shelters that qualify as tax-exempt under 501(c)(3).
Technology Sessions at Newton County Extension Office
The MSU Extension Newton County Office is offering a series of sessions about technology for those that want to learn. The sessions will take place at the Newton County Extension Office at 65 7th Street in Decatur from 10 a.m. until noon.
Upcoming sessions and dates are the following: Technology After Death-March 18; and Introduction to A.I.-April 15. The cost to attend the sessions is free, but seating is limited. Please call 601-635-7011 at your earliest convenience to register.
Newton County Forestry Association Meeting
The Newton County Forestry Association will hold its spring meeting on March 18, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station in Newton. Please call the Newton County Extension Office at 601-635-7011 to let us know if you plan to attend by Friday, March 14.
Newton County Farmer’s Market Interest Meeting
The Newton County Farmer’s Market will hold an interest meeting for vendors on March 20, beginning at 4 p.m. at the MSU Extension Office in Newton County. If you are interested, please join us. For more information, call the Extension Office at 601-635-9011.
Political Forum in Newton
Municipal candidates are invited to attend a Political Forum to be held at the Third New Hope Building in Newton on Thursday, March 20. The forum will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.
Newton County Amnesty Day
The Newton County household hazardous waste collection Amnesty Day will take place on Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Newton County Coliseum (Show Barn). The address is 615 Coliseum Drive in Newton. This is a one-day event that is free to the public. For more information, please call 601-635-2393.
Audition for NTC’s Adult Play “Victoria’s House”
The Newton Theatre Company will hold their audition for the spring adult play “Victoria’s House” on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at The Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton. Performances for “Victoria’s House” are scheduled for Friday, May 30 – Sunday, June 1.
2025 Loose Caboose Arts & Crafts Festival
The Newton Chamber of Commerce invites all to the 22nd Annual Loose Caboose Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday, April 12. The deadline for vendors is March 14. Stop by Chamber office for a vendor application or find a printable form on the Newton Chamber Facebook page.
Newton County Heritage Festival
The 3rd Annual Newton County Heritage Festival will take place on Saturday, April 19, at the Newton County Alternative School, located at 273 10th Avenue in Decatur. The band “Love Undercover” will play live from 4-6 p.m. There will also be live music by DJ Batman on the 1’s and 2’s. There will be a 5K Run, Walk, or Bike and a Corn Hole Tournament. 2025 Decatur Day
Decatur Day returns in the Town of Decatur on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be a Ribs Cook-Off for those who want to enter for a chance to show of their grilling skills. There is a $15 entry fee for the cook-off. We’re currently looking for vendors and entertainment. Go to the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce Facebook page and click the Decatur Day 2025 link to sign up to participate.
NCSWCD Annual Banquet
