As part of their community policing initiative, the Newton Police Department is offering a Conceal Carry Class on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Limited spots are available. Busy Hands Quilt Guild Sept. Meeting
The Busy Hands Quilt Guild will meet on Sept. 9 in the Fellowship Hall of Decatur United Methodist Church. Sit and Sew begins at 9:30 a.m.; the business meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m.; and the afternoon presentation begins at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in making quilt tops, either by hand or machine, or who already makes them, are invited to attend this meeting or any other held on the second Tuesday of each month at the located noted above.

2025 Union Country Day set for Sept. 13
The Union Chamber of Commerce has announced that Union Country Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, this year. The week of festivities will begin with a Country Gal/Country Boy Pageant on Thursday, Sept. 11. Saturday will begin with a 5K Run and Walk. Vendors will line the streets of Downtown Union. Throughout the day, shoppers will be entertained by talented performers in the mini park. Antique Car lovers will enjoy the car show, while children can play in the Kid’s Zone. Newton Theatre Company Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
Tickets are on sale now for the Newton Theatre Company’s adult musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, thru Saturday, Sept. 20, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Union Country Boys and Country Gals Pageant
Calling all Country Boys and Country Gals ages 0-18! You’re invited to enter the Union Country Boys and Country Gals Pageant, taking place on Thursday, Sept. 11, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Union Mini Park. Entry fee is $25 for the first child and $10 for each sibling of the first child. Deadline to enter is Sept. 5. Divisions will include Ages 0-2, 3-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-18. Entry forms can be picked up and returned at Blaze & Ribbon, located at 204 Bank Street in Union.
Union Country Day 5K/Walk
The 2025 Union Country Day 5K/Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13, beginning at Sessums Park. Registration is from 7-7:45 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. The Early Bird fee is $25, but after Sept. 1 it will be $30. T-shirts guaranteed if registered before Sept. 1. Newton Police Department hosts National Night Out
The Newton Police Department will host their 2nd Annual National Night Out event on Monday, Sept. 29, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the grass area located between Third and Fourth Street in Downtown Newton.
Newton County Soil and Water to host Annual Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual Wildlife Expo on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. This year’s program will be on Black Bears in Mississippi with guest speaker Kevin Nelms, Wildlife Biologist. Fish Plates will be served at 5:30 p.m. for $15 per plate, and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing for a Browning AB3 .308 Mossy Oak Bottomland gun. All proceeds support the organizations many community outreach projects.
