Auditions for the NTC holiday Kids Production “The One and Only Santa”
The Newton Theatre Company invites all 1st – 5th graders to audition for the magical holiday children’s production of “The One and Only Santa Clause”, a play filled with cheer, charm, and thirty-two speaking roles! Auditions are scheduled for Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton. Performances of “The One and Only Santa” are set for Nov. 7-9.
Newton Police Department hosts National Night Out
The Newton Police Department will host their 2nd Annual National Night Out event on Monday, Sept. 29, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the grass area located between Third and Fourth Street in Downtown Newton.
Newton County Forestry Association Fall Meeting
The Newton County Forestry Association will have their Fall Meeting at the MSU Coastal Plains Experiment Station in Newton on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. MSU’s Butch Bailey will speak about choosing and working with consultants. There will be a fried catfish and chicken dinner. Please RSVP by Sept. 25 so we can plan the meal. The cost is $10 per person. The Historic McElroy-Hoye House, located at 400 East Church Street in Newton, will host a Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. There will be crafts, Christmas ornaments, baked goods, jewelry, clothes, and so much more!
Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society Next Meeting in October
The next scheduled meeting of the Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society will be October 11, 2025. The speaker will be Greg Boggan, speaking on Grierson's Raid in 1863 thru Newton County.
Newton County Soil and Water to host Annual Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual Wildlife Expo on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. This year’s program will be on Black Bears in Mississippi with guest speaker Kevin Nelms, Wildlife Biologist. Fish Plates will be served at 5:30 p.m. for $15 per plate, and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing for a Browning AB3 .308 Mossy Oak Bottomland gun. All proceeds support the organizations many community outreach projects.
