Newton County Soil and Water Annual Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual Wildlife Expo on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. This year’s program will be on Black Bears in Mississippi with guest speaker Kevin Nelms, Wildlife Biologist. Fish Plates will be served at 5:30 p.m. for $15 per plate, and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing for a Browning AB3 .308 Mossy Oak Bottomland gun. All proceeds support the organizations many community outreach projects.
MRHAV Treat Street in Newton
You are invited to the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority V Treat Street, located at 298 Northside Drive in Newton, on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5-7 p.m. Foot trucks will be on site and tickets can be purchased for games, popcorn, and cotton candy.

Newton County Fire Fighters Field Day is on Oct. 25, and we’re looking for individuals or businesses that would like to help provide any of the following items: water, Gatorade, Powerade, sandwiches, chips, cookies, or paper goods. Halloween Family Movie Night and Costume Contest at The Roxy
The Newton Theatre Company invites your family to their Halloween Family Movie Night and Costume Contest on Oct. 25, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton. The movie will be the Disney classic, “Hocus Pocus”, and there will be concessions available. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door.
2025 Treat Street in Decatur
Join us in Decatur on Oct. 27 from 5:30-7 p.m. for Treat Street: an evening full of candy, games, and food trucks. Come dressed up and ready for a spooktacular time!
Propagating and Painting Workshop hosted by the Newton County Extension Office
Learn the secrets of propagating plants with the Newton Co Extension staff and specialist Shaun Broderick, while designing your own flowerpot and taking home a new plant! Register by calling the Newton Co Extension office at 601-635-7011 and providing $10 per person (supplies provided) check or money order made payable to Newton 4-H. Space is limited, and preregistration is required. Registration closes October 24. If you need special accommodations, contact our office.
Fall Festival at Tinka-Tonka’s Family Daycare
Tinka-Tonka’s Family Daycare invites you to their Annual Fall Festival on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 5-7 p.m. Admission is free! Everyone is welcome to come enjoy games, prizes, food, a photobooth, facepainting, trunk-or-treat, and more! Donations are welcome and they are accepting other that would like to set up a trunk. The American Legion Post 89 will be selling Brunswick Stew at the Legion Hut in Decatur on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. or until they’re sold out. You are welcome to eat at the Legion Hut or get it to go.
City of Newton Parks and Recreation Basketball
Registration is now open for the City of Newton Parks and Recreation Basketball League, open to kids ages 6-12. The deadline is Nov. 21. Registration fee is $40, and the late fee is $5. Must be 6 years old before Nov. 21, 2025. Stop by the Newton City Hall to pick up a registration form.
Toys for Tots Registration Now Open
Registration is now open to take part in Toys for Tots. Open to ages 0-12. To register, come by Afternoon Adventure Learning Center, located at 306 North Main Street in Newton, Monday-Friday from 2-4:30 p.m. You must show a photo I.D., birth certificate, proof of residence, and social security card of each child. Registration is open until Nov. 30. If you would like to donate a new or unwrapped toy, please contact Kristie Temple at 601-934-8978.
