Union Chamber hosts 2026 Wellness Event
Join the Union Chamber of Commerce as we show what Union can offer for a healthier you on Jan. 10, from 9-11 a.m. at Union Community Center at the City Park. Come and visit with representatives from Hardy Fitness & Health, Ochsner Laird Hospital, Performance Therapy, Pelvic Floor Therapy, Robinson Family Dental, Transformation Spa, and Union Karate Club. There will be light refreshments available and door prizes will be given away.
NCHGS January Meeting
The Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, January 10, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Mississippi Department of Human Services Building located in Decatur on Highway 15 South, across from the old Dollar General Store. Graham Clarke will present this month's program on the topic "Rev. N. L. Clarke.” Refreshments will be provided, so make plans to stay after the program and enjoy the food and fellowship.

Busy Hands Quilting Guild January Meeting
Busy Hands Quilt Guild will hold its first meeting of 2026 on Jan. 13th at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Decatur’s United Methodist Church. Sit and sew begins at 9:30 a.m.; our business meeting follows at 11:30 a.m., and member presentation begins at 1p.m. This year marks 33 years since the guild was formed. Come join us in our monthly celebration. Learn how to piece quilt tops by hand or machine or learn hand quilting so you can finish a family member’s unfinished quilt. Miss Hospitality Newton County Applications Available
Interested in competing to become the next Miss Hospitality Newton County? Applications are available now for Newton County females between the ages of 18-24 who are seniors in high school or graduated high school with plans to attend college or currently attending. Deadline to apply is January 10, while the competition to be named Miss Hospitality Newton County will take place on February 7 at the East Central Community College Library. Google Classroom Workshop for Homeschool Families
The Newton County Extension Office is hosting a “Getting Started with Google Classroom Workshop for Homeschool Families on Thursday, Jan. 15, from 1-3 p.m. Discover how Google Classroom can make organizing, sharing, and collaborating easier for your home-school group! Whether teaching multiple children at home or working with a larger home-school co-op, this workshop will give you practical strategies to put Google Classroom to work for you! Bring your own device, if possible. Register by Jan. 12.
Kids Coding Workshop
A Kids Coding Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Newton County Extension Office. The workshop is for kids ages 5-7 and will introduce them to Scratch Jr and the exciting world of coding by exploring the basics of programming, giving them a fun and engaging way to build problem-solving skills and creativity. Devices will be available. Please register by Jan. 12.
