Newton County Soil & Water Tree Giveaway
The Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District will host their annual Tree Giveaway on Thursday, Feb. 5, beginning at 10 a.m. at the USDA Office located at 76 Little Rock Decatur Road in Decatur. They will be giving out one bundle of tree’s per family, and they must be from Newton County. Each bundle will include 2-Sugar Maples, 2-White Flowering Dogwoods, 2-Persimmons, 2-Sawtooth Oaks, 2-Nuttall Oaks, and 2-Chinese Chestnuts. There will be no holds. Important Dixie National dates for Newton County Junior Livestock winners include the Hog Show on Feb. 6-7, Steer Show on Feb. 8, and the Sale of Champions on Feb. 12.Please register by Jan. 12.

Stress-Free Charcuterie Heart Board
Come and decorate your very own heart-shaped Charcuterie Board for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 12, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Newton County Extension Office. Seed Propagation Workshop
The Newton County Extension Office will host a Seed Propagation Workshop at the Newton County Showbarn on Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. Come join Dr. Eddie Smith of Southern Gardening as he demonstrates the different methods for propagating seeds. NCA First Pitch Dinner Featuring Coach Ron Polk
The Newton County Academy Athletic Booster Club will hold the first “General Baseball First Pitch Dinner”, featuring legendary hall of fame baseball coach Ron Polk, on Monday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50. The provided meal will be a catfish/chicken tender dinner with sides, drink, and dessert. Copies of Coach Polk’s book will be available for purchase and there will be a silent auction. The dinner will take place at W.R. Lindsley Gymnasium on the NCA campus, located at 14602 Highway 15 in Decatur. Newton County Shooting Sports Registration Open
Now is the time to register for Shooting Sports in 2026. This will include .22 rifle/pistol, air rifle/pistol, Archery and Shotgun, Sling Shot categories. Registration forms can be picked up at the Newton County Extension Office. For more information, please call 601-635-7011.
Newton County MSU Alumni Chapter Animal Supplies Drive
The Newton County Chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association is conducting an Animal Supplies Drive for the Jackie Therrien Rescue (JTR). The chapter is asking for donations of Gift Certificates to Veterinary Offices, Pet Supplies Stores, or Stores that carry Pet Supplies; Pet Food for dogs or cats; and Pet Supplies such as bedding, toys, snacks, and other items. Donation can be dropped off at the Newton Chamber of Commerce, located at 128 South Main Street in Newton, Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. For more information on the Jackie Therrien Rescue, please call 601-683-2201.
