Union Public Library Summer Reading Program
The Union Public Library offers Books and Games on Wednesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. On both Friday and Tuesday (June 8 and 13), they offer Daycare beginning at 10 a.m. All programs are part of the Summer Reading Program.
Newton Public Library Summer Reading Program
The Newton Public Library offers Making Cloud Dough on Thursday, June 8, at 2 p.m. An Adult Coloring Program will be offered on Wednesday, June 14, at 3:30 p.m. All programs are part of the Summer Reading Program.
East Central Warriors Football Youth Camp
The ECCC Warriors Football Youth Camp for 1st through 8th grade will be Friday, June 9, at 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration is $60 and will take place from 8-9 a.m. Campers will receive a Camp T-Shirt, Lunch, 1-on-1 Training from College Coaches, Safety Instructions, Position Specific Drills, Leadership Building Skills, and Camp Photos.
Thomas Family Reunion 2023
The descendants of William Washington and Lena Catherine Phillips Thomas, whose children are James Allen Thomas, William Melton Thomas, Albert Miles Thomas, John Marion Thomas, Mary Susan Thomas Brantley, and Dock Kelly Thomas will hold the Annual Thomas Family Reunion at the Madden Lions Club, located on Thaggard Road in Madden, on Saturday, June 10, at 11:30 a.m. We hope each of you will plan to come and bring a dish and your lawn chair. If you have any old pictures or other family information that you can share, this will be a great contribution in the preparation of a Thomas Family Book. We look forward to enjoying a day of food, fun and fellowship with each of you. We look forward to seeing each of you.
Newton Theatre Company Presents Clue
Tickets are on sale now for Newton Theatre Company’s presentation of Clue at the Roxy Theatre in downtown Newton. Showtimes are Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 10, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Tickets for adults (13+) are $15, while children’s tickets (12 and below) are $10.Tickets can be purchased at www.ntcroxy.com. Busy Hands Quilt Guild June Meeting
The Busy Hands Quilt Guild will meet Tuesday, June 13th, in the Fellowship Hall of Decatur's UMC across from the ECCC Campus. Sit and Sew begins at 9:30 a.m, a business meeting at 11:30 a.m., lunch from 12 to 1 p.m., a learning presentation from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Show and Tell. The presentation for this meeting will be on making quilt blocks with folded fabrics that gives you either a square, a hexagon or a pine burr.
Feel free to join us at any time during the day. Become a member, Dues are $10 for the year and the Guild meets every second Tuesday of the month.
Decatur Public Library Summer Reading Program
The Decatur Public Library will offer a Friendship Bracelets program on Tuesday, June 13, at 4 p.m. as a part of the Summer Reading Program.
Summer Feeding Program at Newton Elementary School
Newton Municipal School District is sponsoring a Summer Feeding Program at Newton Elementary School June 5-29, 2023 (Monday-Thursday). Meals are FREE for all children under the age of 18. Daily Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:45 and Lunch is served from 10:30-12:30. No Meals will be served on Fridays. This institution is an Equal Opportunity Provider.
Summer Food Service Program at Union High School
The Union Public School District will be participating in the annual Summer Feeding Program 2023 at Union High School.
Starting Monday June 5, 2023, through June 29, 2023, all children 0-18 will be able to receive a free breakfast meal and a free lunch meal. Meals will be dine-in only this year with no carry outs per USDA guidelines.
On Monday-Thursday, Breakfast will be served from 8-9 a.m. and Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
We will be closed on Friday. Adult meals will be available and cost $4. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

ECPDD To Hold Hearing for Aging Programs
The East Central Planning and Development District/Area Agency on Aging will hold an in-person Public Hearing for Aging Programs on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. The meeting will be held in the Board Room of the East Central Planning and Development District office building located at 280 Commercial Drive, Newton, Mississippi.
The purpose of this hearing is to inform all interested persons and organizations about programs and services available for persons aged 60 and above in Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott, and Smith Counties.
The goals and objectives for Fiscal Year October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024 will be discussed and an update of current year activities will be presented. Comments from the public will be welcomed.
Newton Beautification Project asks for Suggestions for Mural
After 35 years of beauty, it is time to refresh and renew the mural on the wall at the intersection of Main Street and Church Street in downtown Newton.
Get your creative juices flowing and join the community fun by submitting your idea of what should replace the mural. The Beautification Project members will select the best idea!
