Thanksgiving Bake Sale in Decatur
The Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club is having a Thanksgiving Bake Sale on Monday, Nov. 20, from 8 a.m.-until at the Newton County Courthouse on Broad Street in Decatur. There will be cookies, cake, pie, chocolates and more! All proceeds will go to the Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club. Come help us raise money for our many activities that we do for our town! You’re invited to the Annual Thanksgiving Meal on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 from 10-11 a.m., served at the Ole Union Opryhouse in Union. The meal is free of charge and open to the public. Newton County MSU Extension Office offers CPR Training
The Newton County MSU Extension Office is offering a CPR Training event on Nov. 29 at 9 a.m. Seating is limited, so please call the office at 601-635-7011 to register or if you have any questions by Nov. 17.
The Training is free. However, if you would like a certification card, there is a $12.50 charge.
Decatur Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting

Kids Painting Workshop at the Historic McElroy-Hoye House
The McElroy-Hoye House in Newton will host a Kids Painting Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The kids, ages 5-12, will be painting a nutcracker on a prepared canvas for the cost of $25. Town of Union Holly Jolly Christmas
The town of Union invites you to join us for a Holly Jolly Christmas in Downtown Union! We are excited to announce the 2023 Christmas Festivities. Gather your loved ones for a jolly good time!
On Dec. 6, there will be a small band performance, followed by the Tree Lighting at 6 p.m., a Christmas Story with Live Nativity at 6:15 p.m., and ending with Various Church Group Performances at 6:30 p.m.
On Dec. 7, we will present our Mr. and Miss Holly Jolly Christmas Pageant at 6:30 p.m.
On Dec. 8, we will offer Train Rides and Christmas Karaoke at 6 p.m.
And on Dec. 9, we will present the Town of Union Christmas Parade, along with a Tacky Sweater Contest, and performances by various musical groups.
Newton Christmas Express 2023 Christmas Parade
The Newton Christmas Express 2023 Christmas Parade will take place on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in Downtown Newton. To apply to participate in the parade, come by the Newton Chamber of Commerce Office or call 601-683-2201 for more information.
Breakfast with Santa at the Historic McElroy-Hoye House
Come and enjoy pancakes with Santa and Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Historic McElroy-Hoye House in Newton. Bring your camera to capture memories at this free event! The Decatur Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Decatur will host Christmas Around the Courthouse on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Downtown Decatur. Junior Auxiliary of Newton County presents Jingle Run in Decatur
Junior Auxiliary of Newton County will be hosting Jingle Run, a 5K Run followed by a 1 Mile Fun Run, on Saturday, December 9, at 8 a.m. as a part of Christmas Around the Square in Decatur. Registration is open now. Those who register before Nov. 15, registration fee is $30, and runners are guaranteed a shirt. After Nov. 15, there will be a late fee and no guarantee of a shirt. Pictures with Santa and Mr. Grinch will be available after the race.
Toys For Tots Registration Open
Registration for Toys for Tots is open at Afternoon Adventure Learning Center, located at 306 North Main Street in Newton. Registration is open for children 0-12 years old until December 22. To register, come by the learning center Monday-Friday between 3:30 and 5 p.m. Please bring a photo I.D., proof of residence, and each kids social security card and birth certificate.
Toys will be given out on December 22 at the Newton Elementary School Gym from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
To donate a new or unopened toy, drop offs can be located at Blossman Gas and Wal Mart in Newton. You can also call Kristie Temple at 601-934-8978 or Felisha Robinson at 601-686-6085 to donate.
