Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society January Meeting
The Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet this Saturday, January 13, at the MDHS Building on Highway 15 South in Decatur. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. The speaker this month will be Ricky Harrison, speaking about "The surveying of the Mason and Dixon Line''. Everyone is welcome, please come and bring a friend. Refreshments after the meeting.
Distinguished Young Women of Newton County Interest Meeting
If you are a junior that lives in Newton County and interested in competing for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Newton County this year, please go online and register as soon as possible.
We’re holding an interest meeting on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Decatur United Methodist Church. Our program date is set for March 16 at Huff Auditorium on the campus of ECCC.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Newton
The Friends of Unity are planning our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Newton on January 15 at 4 p.m. The lineup will be at the Newton High School practice field. We want to start the lineup process at 2:30 p.m. Please get in touch with Mrs. Eva L. McDonald at 601-917-9350 or Mrs. Levera Chapman at 601-917-3346 for instruction on the lineup process.
All churches, groups, businesses, and any other venue that would like to participate in the parade are welcome. We are inviting several high school bands and radio stations to participate this year. Assembly at Ray Payne Park following the parade.
Union Public School District School Board January Meeting
The Union Public School District Board will meet on Thursday, January 18, at 6 p.m. at the Union Public School District Office.
