Newton Baseball, Softball, T-Ball Registration
Registration is now open for Newton Parks and Recreation 2024 Baseball, Softball, or T-Ball until Feb. 16. Registration fee is $40. The late fee is $5-applicable as needed. Forms can be picked up and returned to Newton City Hall. Forms will not be accepted without fee. Late forms will only be accepted on an as needed basis. Must be 4 years old before May 1 or T-Ball.

Newton Senior Citizens Center Re-Opening
East Central Planning and Development District Area Agency on Aging is in the process of re-opening the Newton Senior Citizens Center and will hold an Open House on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The center is located at 105 Adam Street in Newton and is for persons above the age of 60.
Computer Basics 101 hosted by Newton County Ext. Office
The Newton County MSU Extension Office will host a Computer Basics 101 Class on Thursday, Feb. 22, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Extension Office. The training is free., but you must register to reserve your spot. Call 601-635-7011 if you have questions or to register.
Maddie’s Little Library Book Drive
Please join us for Maddie’s Little Library Book Drive, presented by Mississippi Children’s Literacy, on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Newton Healthcare Inc., located at 9431 Eastside Drive Extension in Newton. We welcome donations of new or gently used children’s books. The first five donations will get a door prize!
Maddie’s Little Library is an educational nonprofit that partners with students, families, schools, libraries, and communities to provide students with individualized literary support and the foundational skills to meet benchmark goals.

PreK Registration at Newton County Elementary School for 2024-25
Newton County Elementary School PreK Registration for the upcoming 2024-25 school year will begin Monday, Feb. 26 and will continue through Friday, March 8, from the hours of 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Parents and guardians of children who will be four before Sept. 1 are encouraged to register at the Newton County Elementary Office. Three proofs of residency along with the child’s birth certificate, social security car, and MS Immunization Form 121 are required at the time of registration. Annual Meeting of the Poplar Springs Cemetery Association
The Poplar Springs Cemetery Association of Newton County, Inc. will hold its Annual Cemetery Meeting on March 3, beginning at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. We have several change in the cemetery by-laws. We are asking that if you are a member or if interested in becoming a member, please come and join us for this meeting.

Newton County Extension Office offers CPR Training
The Newton County Extension Office will offer CPR Training on March 11 at 9 p.m. at the Extension Office. The training is free, but you must register ahead of time by calling our office at 601-635-7011. Certification cards will be available for $12.50 each, payable by check or money order only.
Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Grant I
The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) has entered into a cooperative agreement with the USDA to administer the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program.
A educational meeting will be held Feb. 1 in Hattiesburg. The webinar will be Feb. 2. Interested applicants can register at https://www.mdac.ms.gov/rfsi/.
The deadline to apply for RFSI’s Infrastructure Grant or Equipment-Only Grant is March 15, 2024, at 5 p.m. CST. All completed applications must be electronically submitted to rfsi@mdac.ms.gov. Annual Veterans Supper at the Chunky Fire Department
The Chunky Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its Annual Veterans Supper on April 6 at 5 p.m. at the Chunky Fire Department. All active and retired veterans and their families are invited to attend a night of thanks in their honor.
