ECCC Out-Of-School Youth Program and Adult Education Recruiting Event
The East Central Community College Out-of-School Youth Program and Adult Education will have a Recruiting Event on Thursday, May 2, from 9-11 a.m. at the MS Regional Housing Authority Office (298 Northside Drive in Newton). Join us and allow us to show you how we can help you! There will be local food trucks, door prizes, and free giveaways. Requirements to take part in our programs are to be between the ages of 16 to 24, not working or attending any school, or need your high school equivalency (ages 16 and above).
The Doda Derby
Join us as we celebrate the grand reveal of the Marquise “Doda” Poole Foundation on May 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2710 Airport Road in Newton. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds go to the foundation, which will provide a scholarship to students at NMSD, NCSD, and UPSD.
Freedom Fund Banquet hosted by Newton County NAACP
The Newton County Branch NAACP will hold its Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, May 4, at East Central Community College in Decatur beginning at 6 p.m. Senator Rod Hickman, District 32-Kemper, Lauderdale, Noxubee, Winston Counties, will be the Keynote Speaker for this event. Tickets are $35 per person. See any NAACP member or you can purchase at the door.

UHS HOSA Future Health Professionals Fundraising
The HOSA Future Health Professionals at Union High School have 15 students that have qualified to advance to the HOSA International Competition in Houston, Texas on June 25-20. There is currently a fund-raising effort to assist sending the students to represent UPSD at this competition, which will cost $1,500 per student and is due by May 10. Hickory Pick’n Flea Market Craft Show, Concert, and Outdoor Movie
Hickory Pick’n Flea Market in Hickory will host a Craft Show beginning at 10 a.m. on May 18. Beginning at 5:30 that afternoon, Rydan Media and Sonshine Ministries will put on a free concert and an outdoor showing of the movie “Losing Hope: Finding Grace”.
