Mobile Mammogram Unit Breast Screening at MS Regional Housing Authority
The Baptist Memorial Hospital Mobile Screening Mammography Service will be in Newton at the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority on Thursdays, Sept. 12, and Friday, Sept 13, beginning at 8:30 a.m. - until. If you are interested, visit the MRHAV front office and pick up a form to fill out. The MRHAV is located at 298 Northside Drive in Newton.
Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting
The Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, September 14, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Mississippi Department of Human Services Building located in Decatur, on Highway 15 South, across from the old Dollar General Store. This month's speaker will be Mark Davis with the Mississippi Sacred Harp Convention. Mark will be presenting a program on shape note singing, which has been a part of Mississippi history for many years. Everyone is invited and please bring a guest. Refreshments after the meeting.

NCHS Homecoming Parade
The Newton County High School Homecoming Parade will be on Thursday, Sept. 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Downtown Decatur. The parade will follow the same route as the Christmas Parade with the announcement of the Homecoming Court and Queen Candidates in front of the Newton County Courthouse.
Countywide Voter Registration Awareness Drive
Newton County residents that are not registered voters may do so Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Newton Walmart Supercenter. In order to register, individuals must be 18 years of age by Election Day, November 5, 2024, and must bring a valid driver’s license or State Photo ID.
Union Country Day 2024
Union Country Day 2024 will be on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festivities include the County Gal/Boy Pageant, a 5K Walk/Run, a Car Show, a Kids Zone, plenty of vendors and entertainment throughout the day, and more. Todd Tilghman Live Benefit Concert
Todd Tilghman will be live in concert at Huff Auditorium on the campus of East Central Community College in Decatur on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. This is a benefit concert for Tiffany Boyd. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door. 800 seats are available.
Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District Wildlife Expo
The Newton County Soil and Water Conversation District will have their Wildlife Expo on October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hut in Decatur. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., there will be a meal of fish, fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, a dessert, and drink offered for $15 a plate.
The program will be Wild Turkeys and a speaker from the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. There will also be door prizes, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing. All proceeds will go to the support of educational conservation projects, youth camp, field days, poster content, and community outreach. The American Legion Hut is located on Highway 15 South in Decatur.
Craft Fair at the McElroy-Hoye House
You are invited to a Craft Fair at the Historic McElroy-Hoye House on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free. There will be crafts, Christmas ornaments, baked goods, jewelry, clothes, and so much more! For more information, contact 601-934-6774. MRHAV hosts Treat Street in Newton
The Mississippi Rural Housing Authority V will host Treat Street at 298 Northside Drive in Newton on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be food trucks, treats, games, and more! Entrance is free. Tickets are available to purchase for games.
