Thanksgiving
East Central Community College in Decatur will close for the Thanksgiving holidays Monday through Friday, Nov. 25-29. The college will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 2.
Hope Missions Newton Pre-Thanksgiving Event
Join us on Wedenesday, November 27 at 12:30 p.m. for a Pre-Thanksgiving event in our events room and chapel at Hope Missions in Newton. There will be food, music, skits, The Word and more.
Adopt an Angel from NCOC Angel Tree
The Newton Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Salvation Army to adopt Angels from Newton and Lauderdale Counties this year. Adopt an Angel by visiting the Newton Chamber of Commerce office located at the Newton Depot at 128 S. Maine Street during office hours or by calling 601-683-2201. Angel’s gifts are due by December 11 at 4 p.m.
Newton Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Join us for our Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Ralphael Payne park in Downtown Newton on Tuesday, December 3 at 6:45 p.m.! It will include words from our Community Leaders, a candle lighting ceremony, a joyful Community Choir and the lighting of our Community Christmas Tree. Ralpheal Payne Park is located at the junction of Main Street and Church Street in downtown Newton. Newton Christmas Parade Registration
Join us for Newton’s Annual Holiday Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 5 at 6 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Magic of Christmas.” We encourage groups, businesses and organizations to enter their “Magic of Christmas” floats into our judged parade. The Newton County Middle and High School Choirs invite you to their Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 5 at 6 p.m. in the NCHS Gym. Please bring a canned food item and support our local food pantries. The public is welcome.

10th Annual Whistlestop Marketplace at
the Newton Depot
Come shop until you drop at our 10th Annual Whistlestop Marketplace on December 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Housed cozily inside the historic Newton Depot, we will have a variety of local vendors specializing in crafts, boutique clothes, baked good, jewelry, artwork, gift wrapping station, and more. Lawrence Community Club Sharing Library
The Lawrence Community Club has established a Sharing Libray located beside the Lawrence School sign on the left side of the driveway to the club. Members invite the whole community to “take a book” to read. If you would like to donate books to the library, books should be in good condition and most any subject is accepted. Please, no offensive books. There are children’s, young adult, fiction and nonfiction books available.
