The Newton Historical Cultural Commission will hole the monthly meeting on Thursday, September 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hoye House. All members and other interested persons are urged to attend.
Newton County Retired Education Personnel Meeting
The Newton County Retired Education Personnel will meet at the ECCC Gold Room in the Cafeteria on Thursday, September 26 at 1:30 p.m. The program will be given by Newton County School Superintendents. Please remember to bring canned goods or a donation for ECCC’s Food Program. Any Newton County retired education personnel who are interested in joining this organization is welcome to attend.
Town Of Hickory Chamber Of Commerce Banquet
The Town of Hickory Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held on September 28 at 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce. There will be entertainment, food and the speaker will be Tyler McCaughn. Tickets are $20 per person. For more information, call the following: 646-2211, 479-2329 or 646-5439.
Union Public Library Card Sign-Up Month
September is Library Card Sign-Up month. Celebrate by getting your very own card today! A drawing for 2 prizes will be held on October 1. Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District Wildlife Seminar
The Newton County Soil and Water Conservation District will host its annual wildlife seminar on Thursday, October 3 at 5 p.m. It will take place at the American Legion Hut on Hwy 15 South in Decatur. It begins with a dessert contest with prizes and three raffles. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. Keynote speaker will be William McKinley, a deer program biologist, and he will speak on chronic wasting disease in deer. Foresters and Conservation Officers will be available for questions. There will be a door prize/meal ticket with each $5 contribution and children age 5 and under are admitted free. All proceeds will go to support school programs, teacher workshops, youth camps, field days and a poster/essay contest.
Lawrence School Reunion
The Lawrence School Reunion will be October 5 at the old school building, located at 485 Lawrence-Hazel Road in Lawrence. Meet and greet with old school friends will start at 10 a.m. Meeting will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch. Please make plans to attend. Everyone is invited.
MSU Newton County Extension Celebrates 50 Years of EFNEP
Newton County Extension is holding an event on October 8 to recognize a community nutrition education program that helps limited-resource families eat healthier, be more physically active and improve health. Everyone is invited to attend from 2-4 p.m. at the Newton County Extension, located at 65 Seventh Street in Decatur. The event will include a food demonstration, tasting, nutrition displays, and a display of the 50th EFNEP Anniversary Proclamation.
Chunky Volunteer Fire Department Vendors Fair
The Chunky Volunteer Fire Department will be having a Vendors Fair on October 12 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Chunky Baseball Field. The Town of Chunky will also be having a town-wide yard sale this day. We invite everyone out to a day of fun and entertainment. Anybody that wants a booth space or to entertain can contact any Fire Department member or go to the Chunky Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page and message us. Chunky River Recreation Bluegrass Gospel Singing And Cornhole Tournament
Chunky River Recreation, located at 24055 Highway 80 in Chunky, will be hosting a Bluegrass Gospel Singing and Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, October 19. The singing begins at 11 a.m. and will feature Alan Sibley and the Magnolia Ramblers, Answered Prayer Gospel Band, and Pilgrim Family Bluegrass Band. The Second Annual “Boss” Toss Cornhole Tournament begins at 3 p.m., after the singing. The cost per team is $10. There will be First and Second place prizes and trophies awarded. Union Public Library Children’s Story Time
The Union Public Library will host a Children’s Story Time each Friday at 3 p.m. All children are invited to attend.
