A Conehatta man has been sentenced to 24 years and 4 months in federal prison for sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 on the Choctaw Indian Reservation.
Brett Keith Thomas, 28, was sentenced on January 13, 2025, following his guilty plea in June 2024. According to court records, the abuse occurred in 2016 in the Conehatta Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation. A federal grand jury indicted Thomas in July 2023.
Thomas faced a potential life sentence, but his punishment was determined by a federal judge after considering U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was investigated by the Choctaw Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. U.S. Attorney Todd Gee and FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff announced the sentencing. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin J. Payne and Brian K. Burns.
This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program focuses on prosecuting offenders, rescuing victims, and coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
