A man was shot on Monday evening by the son of an ex-girlfriend after allegedly breaking into their home in Newton, according to authorities.
Newton Police Chief Randy Patrick said officers responded to a call at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, October 14, at 105 5th Street, where they found Kenneth Johnson had been shot in the back. Johnson was transported to a hospital for medical treatment, but as of Tuesday morning, his condition remains unknown.
After conducting an investigation, officers learned that Johnson had broken into the residence, where a fight ensued. During the altercation, Johnson was shot by the 17-year-old son of the ex-girlfriend. The teenager was arrested.
The incident remains under investigation, according to Chief Patrick.
