The parents of a two-month-old infant who passed away in July have been arrested after it was determined that the infant had methamphetamine in her system at the time of death.
Robert Hunter, 41, and Alexis Terrell, 31, both of Newton, were arrested by the Philadelphia Police Department on August 12 and charged with manslaughter after a toxicology report showed the infant had a large amount of methamphetamine in her blood, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons.
“We got information that she (Terrell) was working at a local restaurant, so we went and picked her up there. Then she was interviewed and later arrested,” Lyons said. “We made contact with Mr. Hunter in Newton County, where he was working, and he found out we were looking for him and turned himself in. He was also interviewed and later arrested.”
On July 8, Paisley Terrell, was found not breathing at a residence located on A Avenue in Philadelphia, where Lyons said the three were living at the time. After the 2-year-old was transported to Neshoba General Hospital, she was pronounced dead.
“During the interview, we confirmed that both parents frequently used methamphetamine inside that residence,” said Lyons. Lyons added that they are unsure on exactly how the methamphetamine got into the infant’s system, but due to the parents consuming the drug through vaping, it’s possible that it was through vape fumes.
