A routine traffic stop in Union on Saturday evening resulted in the arrest of two Walnut Grove residents on felony drug charges.
At approximately 8 p.m. on June 1, Officer Joshua Grimes, with the assistance of Officer Joshua Morrow, pulled over a white Jeep Liberty on West Jackson Road. The vehicle was occupied by Harley Joe Sanderson, 29, and Warren Theodore Jones, 58.
During the stop, Sanderson admitted to having crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle and directed the officers to its location. Officer Grimes then inspected the area and discovered a substance he believed to be a controlled drug. To confirm the discovery, he called in K9 Sheba and handler Officer Steve Robinson.
The search resulted in the recovery of 3.73 grams of crystal methamphetamine and unspecified drug paraphernalia. Both Sanderson and Jones were arrested and transported to the Newton County Correctional Facility. They face charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Officers have reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
