The East Central Community College Fine Arts Department will provide families with a spooky good time next week as they host their inaugural “Haunted Experience”.
Hosted at the Vickers Fine Arts Building, the “Haunted Experience” is for all ages and invites families for an evening of thrills and plenty of laughs. They promise nothing will be too scary, just the right amount of spooky fun. The event will have many Halloween favorites and entertainment that includes performances by The Ghoulish Cast & Their Monsters. There will also be a Haunted Maze and a circus-themed experience.
According to Fine Arts Department Chair Mandy Quinn, people can expect more than a haunted house, which the department used to host at Halloween.
“Outside of the Fine Arts Building, there will be different characters that will help set up the experience, as well as some performing groups. Then you’re enter the building where there will be a small maze where you will come across some other characters,” said Quinn. “And that will lead you to Vickers Auditorium, where there will be a short 10–15-minute production that will include characters from the classic horror movies, like the Wolfman and Dracula. It’s going to be a lot of fun! I know they haven’t done anything quite like this before, it’s not the same as the haunted house that’s occurred in the past.”
Helping to take this experience to the next level are several of the students that take part in organizations within the fine arts on campus, including students from the Art Club, Encore Theater members, band members, and choir.
“It’s our first time doing it, so we’re not sure what to expect, considering it’s happening at the same time as Treat Street. And we purposely set that up to try and get some of the younger audience to come, as well,” Quinn said. “But we’re excited! And the students are really into it and are looking forward to it, as well.”
The “Haunted Experience” is set for October 28 and 29, from 5:30-8 p.m. each night, at the Vickers Fine Arts Building at ECCC. Price for admission is $5, while children 5 and under get in for $2. ECCC students, faculty, and staff admission is also $2. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Cultural Art Series at ECCC, which will offer workshops, performances, and other great things to the community.
