GFWC-MFWC Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club held a dedication on Thursday, October 3, at the little flowerbed in Downtown Decatur in honor of Domestic Violence month and in memory of Marian Chaney, who passed away September 6, 2020 from the hands of domestic abuse.
October is Domestic Violence Month and the “GFWC National President’s Signature Project”, so the Club sponsors an activity each year to increase awareness of the widespread occurrence of domestic and sexual violence abuse in communities across our state and our nation.
Inside the garden, the sign was created and donated by “Hearz Yer Sign” of Lawrence. The “Peace Rocks” were painted by the students in the Newton County Elementary School TAG classes. The purple pinwheels were made by the club members. In attendance for the dedication were Marian’s family: Her Parents, Kenneth and Beth Chaney; Her sons, Eli and Lane Roncali; Her sister, Michelle Chaney, and family members Kellye Addy with baby Riley Grace Addy, and friend Kaitlyn Collins. Also in attendance were Club President Valorie Westbrook and Committee Members Pam Keith, Cindy Thompson, Dianne Smith, Beth Reeves, LeAnn Sullivan, and Paula Jones.
