East Central Community College (ECCC) is gearing up for their annual homecoming on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. The college will honor several outstanding alumni and present a lifetime achievement award on its Decatur campus.
Lori Rogers Wilcher, a 1993 graduate of ECCC and the current director of federal programs and special education at Union Public School District, will be recognized as the alumna of the year. Joining her in receiving top honors is Jamie Satcher, a 1980 graduate and retired professor emeritus of counselor education at the University of Alabama, who will be named alumnus of the year.
The college will also induct three former athletes into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Trampas Amedee, a former Diamond Warrior from the class of 1992; Carolyn Boatman Hull, who played women’s basketball and graduated in 1991; and Sam Nowell, a standout in men’s basketball from the class of 1969, will all be honored for their contributions to ECCC’s athletic legacy.
In addition, Bubby Johnston, a Forest native and longtime vice president for public information, will receive a lifetime achievement award. Johnston, who now resides in Quitman, has been recognized for his significant impact on the college and its community.
Special recognition will also be given to the Class of 1974, celebrating its golden anniversary, and to all retired ECCC faculty and staff.
The day’s events are set to begin at noon with a pep rally on the East Mall near Mabry Cafeteria, featuring the Wall O’ Sound Band, cheerleaders, Centralettes, and the Warrior football team.
