Kemp Alderman had his dreams come true when his name was called by the Miami Marlins Sunday night during the Major League Baseball draft.
Alderman was drafted 47th overall and is likely one of the highest draft picks ever to come out of Newton County much less Newton County Academy.
Many of us knew he had a chance to be special as he was growing up and dominating sports, and we are glad he gets to live out this dream.
He’s going to get a pretty good signing bonus being drafted this high, and there’s a good chance he will get to play against other Southern League teams such as the Mississippi Braves in the Marlins organization. So hopefully, we’ll get to see him from time to time just down the road.
Very few players ever get this opportunity to get drafted at all. Kemp is one of the fortunate ones who has worked his way up from youth leagues now to potentially the major leagues. He still has a long road to get there, but we know he will give it his all.
