The list of American politicians serving well past their “expiration date” just keeps on growing. Among them:
• Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 90, in obvious medical and cognitive decline.
• Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, in declining health and apparent cognitive decline.
• President Joe Biden, 80, in possible cognitive decline.
• And now former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 83, announcing she will run for reelection to Congress next year.
Pelosi is in the best condition of the bunch, but still there’s a time to go home. Eighty is not the new 60.
While we also need newer blood in especially in Washington in many of the representative and senate offices, we also must make sure that we are electing people for the right reason.
Just because someone is young isn’t the only reason to elect them. They need to be the best person for the job. Usually, that happens by holding office in lower positions prior to running for regional and statewide positions.
