Newton County Academy students of Windy Bell’s Fiber Foundations I class recently completed projects where they were asked to design a home online, followed by building a 3D model of their designed homes. The 7th - 12th grade student’s 3D model homes were also judged for prizes by NCA staff and the public in such categories as first-third place, most unique, best use of materials, and neatest.
According to Bell, who said she had been administering the model home project for over 20 years, this was the first time for students at NCA take part in the project and they, along with their families, did exceptionally well.
“We had 100% participation, which is always a plus, and it was also a family project,” said Bell. “And the families took to the model home project so seriously. I had so many parents tell me they had a lot of fun working with their kids on the models, and that’s such a compliment to me.”
Winners of the Model Home Judging were: First Place: Braiden Walker (10th grade); Second Place: Landry and Lanee Parks (12th and 7th Grade); Third Place: Cohen Rule (10th Grade) and Josh Fletcher (10th Grade); Headmaster’s Choice: Cooper Robinson (10th Grade); Staff Choice: Josh Fletcher; Most Unique: Marli-Clare Kelly (8th Grade) and Cohen Rule; Most Creative: Samantha Williams (8th Grade) and Josh Fletcher; Best Use of Material: Marli-Clare Kelly, Samantha Williams, and Landry/Lanee Parks; and Neatest: Oliva Hodges (11th Grade) and Landry/Lanee Parks.
