Local emergency services and City of Newton officials helped the Newton Municipal School District kick off Red Ribbon Week by visiting with students at Newton Elementary on Oct. 28. During their visit to the school, members of the Newton Police Department, Fire Department, Newton’s Mayor and city officials, and AmeriPro Ambulance Services briefly spoke to classes, encouraging them to be great students, work hard, and to stay away from alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
Afterwards, fifth grade students were invited to take a close look at the lineup of emergency service vehicles, such as a firetruck, ambulance, and police vehicles. Soon after trying out the flashing lights, sirens, and exploring each vehicle, the students released red balloons in honor of Red Ribbon Week.
