The Newton Municipal School District (NMSD) recently received significant grants to enhance its music programs, with new instruments and equipment coming to both the elementary and middle schools.
Newton Elementary School was awarded $27,000 for new musical instruments and supplies, while NH Pilate Middle School received $72,000. This funding will support the district's efforts to provide a comprehensive music education to students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Superintendent Glenda Nickson expressed her excitement about the impact these new resources will have. “This partnership will allow NMSD to continue its efforts to enhance the educational experience of our scholars. We are committed to aggressively searching and exploring innovative programs that allow our scholars to achieve and excel with pride,” she said. “The impact these awards will have on our K-8 music programs will be exhibited throughout the academic journey of our students. Our district will continue our goal of moving our scholars in an exciting and positive direction.”
The grants are part of a broader initiative to support arts education in public schools, recognizing music's vital role in fostering creativity, cognitive development, and social skills among students. With the new instruments expected to arrive soon, teachers are ready to incorporate them into their classrooms and enhance their music programs.
The district's commitment to arts education reflects a broader understanding of its benefits, not just in fostering musical skills, but in supporting overall academic and personal growth. Nickson emphasized, “We are committed to aggressively searching and exploring innovative programs that allow our scholars to achieve and excel with pride.”
