Reese Eldridge, a senior at Newton County High School, has been recognized with the Spirit of 4-H Award.
“The Spirit of 4-H Award is given to someone who exemplifies their ideals—leadership, courage, and especially service,” Eldridge explained.
This recognition is particularly meaningful, as it is a statewide award. “It’s a huge honor—not just for shooting sports, which is my focus, but for the entire 4-H club. I think only three people in total received the award. It’s a massive honor,” he said.
The award was presented during 4-H Legislative Day, an event that brings together state legislators and 4-H members. “It was a small event with all the legislators from across the state—the House representatives and senators,” Eldridge shared.
In addition to receiving the award, Eldridge recently served as a page in the Mississippi House of Representatives. “That was a really neat experience. I got to page in the House, which is a little more hustle and bustle since there are more House members than senators. Maybe one day I can be there,” he said.
Eldridge has also been preparing for the Beta Convention. “This year, I kind of dialed it back, but last year I ran for a state position—unfortunately, I didn’t get it. This year, I’m mainly helping a fellow student run for his position, so I’m acting as his campaign manager,” he said.
Looking ahead, Eldridge plans to start his college journey at East Central Community College to major in engineering. “I plan on doing a little bit at East Central for maybe a year or two and then transferring to Mississippi State,” he said.
With his dedication to leadership, service, and personal growth, Eldridge continues to make Newton County proud—and his journey is just beginning.
