The Roxy Theatre will once again open its doors to audiences of all ages this weekend as the Newton Theatre Company presents its Fall Adult Musical “Seussical the Musical”, starring a plethora of highly talented youth and adults from the Newton County area.
The musical comedy, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and based on the works of Dr. Seuss, takes audiences on a magical, as well as colorful, adventure alongside such memorable characters as The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, the Who’s, and many more.
Directing the musical is Jonathan Thorne, while Grace Norman serves as Music Director. According to Thorne, the story told in “Seussical” is one that will resonate with audience members both young and old.
“It’s a story about love and acceptance,” said Thorne. “This production combines several different stories and characters from the world of Dr. Seuss that most adults grew up with and children today are discovering.”
After eight-and-a-half weeks of rehearsals, Thorne said that the cast and crew are excited to entertain audiences from the stage of the Roxy Theatre, adding that the cast is made up of some variety of area talent.
“Rehearsals have gone well. They have worked very hard to put on this production for our community,” said Thorne. “People from all structures of our community are involved in this production. Everybody from doctors, college professors, college students, high school students, and junior high students. This is truly a community production.”
Showtimes for the Newton Theatre Company’s production of “Seussical the Musical” are Friday, September 27, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, September 28, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, September 29, at 2 p.m.
