Prime your pumpkin coach and polish those glass slippers as the Newton Theatre Company’s adult musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella opening night is set for Thursday evening at the Roxy Theatre in Downtown Newton.
Audiences young and old are welcomed to come enjoy the grand display of local talent as they present the timeless tale of Cinderella (Madyson Warren), who is forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother (Heidi Armstrong) and selfish stepsisters (Tracy Rule and Shelby Harris). With the help of her Fairy Godmother (Ann Mabry), Cinderella’s dreams of a better life come into fruition as she’s transformed into a graceful young lady and is able to attend the ball to meet her prince (Lane Fulton).
In their twelfth and final week of rehearsals, director Julie Rowzee said the 29 cast members and 35 crew members have done tremendous jobs of preparing for opening night.
“They’ve done great. The rehearsals have run smoothly since day one,” said Rowzee, a twenty-plus year veteran director at The Roxy. “Typically, there’s a big hiccup and it’s just not there, but that hasn’t been the case. They’ve done a really great job.”
Audiences have four opportunities to watch Cinderella at The Roxy this week: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.ntcroxy.com or by calling 601-621-0033. Adult tickets are $15, and Children (12 & under) are $10. All proceeds go to fund future theatre productions and maintenance.
“We’d love everybody to come. This cast and crew have worked hard for this moment, and they deserve a good audience,” Rowzee said. “There’s a lot of talent out there and people are going to be pretty impressed to see and hear the talent displayed by these cast members, whom they see every day at church, school, or out and about. And it would definitely be fun for them to have somebody come out and support them.”
