The stage at the Roxy Theatre in Downton Newton be the setting for mystery, suspense, and a taste of supernatural this weekend as the Newton Theatre Company presents its adult play “Victoria’s House”.
The play, authored by Fred Carmichael, is set in the turn of the century at the home of Neil and Victoria’s Bannister on the British Coast. As Neil feels he’s committed the perfect crime, he discovers that forces are working against him. Whether these forces are of law or supernatural phenomena permeates throughout the production until the final curtain.
According to Amanda Blackburn, the director for NTC’s production of “Victoria’s House”, the play is different than recent adult plays at The Roxy, and she’s amazed at how the seasoned cast picked it up and put it all together in rehearsals.
“I really loved this play after reading it, but was a little nervous when choosing to go with it because the last two that I directed were comedies. While it has some humor, it’s more dramatic,” said Blackburn. “But with a cast that’s performed together in previous productions, it was really easy for us to jump in and polish everything up. I’ve been very pleased, not only with everybody willing to sign up for something that wasn’t just a comedy, but how they have brought it to life on stage. And that potential that I saw when I read it, it’s translated very well with this very talented group of people.”
Blackburn added that the cast and crew is beyond excited to put on a great show for the audience and invites everyone to come out and have a great time at The Roxy in Downtown Newton.
The cast of “Victoria’s House” is made up of James Rowzee (Neil Bannister), Cara Brand (Victoria Bannister), Heidi Armstrong (Mrs. Case), Rachel Clay (Jane Leighton), Trey Harris (Charles Axton), Chandler Smith (William Scott), Cindy Thompson (Margaret St. James), Andrea Morgan (Winnie), and Marty Morgan (Stephens).
The crew includes Amanda Blackburn, Jonathan Thorne, Rachel Clay, Andrea Morgan, Marshall Van Zjill, and Chandler Smith.
