On Monday, July 3, the annual Independence Day Celebration at Turkey Creek Park will once again give area residents an opportunity to come together and celebrate American’s Independence with food, fellowship, and fireworks.
The fireworks show, provided by Artisan Pyrotechnics from Wiggins, will begin at 9 p.m. However, Pam Engle, Turkey Creek Park Manager, said that they invite everyone to come out earlier. “We’re going to have food and entertainment for families to enjoy,” said Engle. “So, we’d love to see people come out and spend the afternoon at Turkey Creek before the big fireworks show.”
Amongst the fun expected that day: The National Guard Kids Zone, Face Painting, the PHI Helicopter (weather permitting) will be on hand for kids to get a close look, and the Decatur Fire Department will be selling Cook’s pulled pork plates and Mr. Mikes Frozen Yogurt beginning at 5 p.m.
A couple of new offerings at this year’s celebration will be a blow-up water slide for kids to cool off in the summer heat and Country music radio station 97 OKK will be doing a live remote at Turkey Creek from 4-7 p.m.
Engle said that sponsors have gone above and beyond in the support for the celebration, which is something they’re thankful for. “We’ve had such great support; I mean our sponsorship is just overwhelming every year, which is how we’re able to add things to the event like the water slide and the live remote by 97 OKK,” Engle said. “We certainly appreciate all the support from local businesses, the towns, and the county.
Admission the Independence Day Celebration at Turkey Creek is $10 per carload. Those who would like to launch their boat for the evening will be charged an extra $7.
