When Ethan Boleware was just a seventh grader, Sebastopol baseball coach Craig Martin told one of his administrators that he thought Boleware would play college baseball one day.
That prediction came to fruition recently when Boleware signed to play baseball at East Central Community College.
“He’s one of those kids that is a program changer,” Martin said. “When he was in seventh grade, I knew he was a kid that could play college baseball. I told our principal one day that he would play college baseball one day. He is one of those kids that can get you on the map and get your underclassmen some looks as well. He’s a high character guy who comes to work every day and that’s what we are looking for in our baseball program.”
Martin said Boleware has primarily been a shortstop for the Bobcats but will most likely be a corner infielder for the Warriors.
“I talked with Coach (Neal) Holliman at East Central and he thinks he will be a corner guy at either first or third,” Martin said. “This summer he played for a Mississippi Dixie Youth team that won the whole thing and he played a lot of first for them and had a really good summer. He’s got a really good arm and could play third as well. He has played some third for us depending on who is pitching but he’s such a good athlete that we have to put him at shortstop.”
Through seven games let year. Boleware hit .440 with five doubles and 10 RBIs, scoring 16 runs. As a sophomore, Boleware hit .369 with 28 runs scored and 15 RBIs.
“I hate that we got shut down last year,” Martin said. “He was really hitting it well last year and I think was going to have a monster season. I think we had several guys who were going to have really good years, but I really think Ethan was going to have a good year.
