The Newton County Academy Lady Generals got in four games last week but only managed one win.
But the one win was an important one as the Lady Generals beat Kemper Academy 8-3 on Tuesday.
The Lady Generals lost three games on Saturday at the Brookhaven Tournament, falling 4-3 to Copiah and Adams Christian and then 5-1 to Prairie View.
The Lady Generals have a pair of district games this week as they will travel to Sylva Bay on Monday and to Hebron Christian on Tuesday.
NCA 8, Kemper 3
The Lady Generals picked up a big district win over the Lady Rams on Tuesday.
The Lady Generals scored two in the first, one in the second and three in the third to lead 6-1 after three innings. Each team scored two in the sixth for the final margin.
The Lady Generals outhit Kemper 5-3 in the contest and took advantage of three errors and four walks. Belle Hollingsworth was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Lilly Hollingsworth and Addie Bergeron each singled and scored two runs apiece. Cayden Alexander drew two walks and also scored twice. Ashlyn Mathis singled and drove in a run while Sydnee Cosgrove had an RBI.
The Lady Generals had 10 stolen bases while Alexander stole four bases. Bergeron had three stolen bases while Lilly Hollingsworth had two stolen bases.
Cosgrove pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six.
Copiah 4, NCA 3
The Lady Generals fell to Class 5A Copiah on Saturday at the Brookhaven Tournament.
Copiah scored one in the first and third and finished with two in the fourth. NCA scored one in the second and two in the fourth in a time-limit contest.
NCA only had two hits as Belle Hollingsworth had a single and two RBIs. Lilly Hollingsworth had NCA’s other hit. Addie Bergeron scored two runs for NCA while Ashlyn Mathis scored the other run.
Lilly Hollingsworth pitched all four innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.
Adams Christian 4, NCA 3
The Lady Generals lost another one-run contest at the Brookhaven Tournament to Class 5A Adams Christian.
NCA led 2-1 after the first inning but ACCS added one in the second and two in the third. NCA added one run in the fourth.
Each team had three hits as Lilly Hollingsworth and Mallory Helm each singled and drove in a run. Macie Woodham singled and scored. Lyddia Jones also scored a run.
Sydnee Cosgrove pitched three innings and gave up four runs on three hits and four walks. Lilly Hollingsworth pitched a scoreless inning.
Prairie View 5, NCA 1
The Lady Generals suffered their third loss of the day on Saturday, falling to Prairie View.
Prairie View scored one in the second and fifth and three in the third. NCA scored one in the fifth.
Prairie View outhit NCA 8-4 in the contest. Mallory Helm singled and had an RBI while Cayden Alexander, Lilly Hollingsworth and Ashlyn Mathis each singled.
Lilly Hollingsworth pitched all five innings and gave up five runs on eight hits.
