The Union Yellowjackets bounced back from a tough loss to Leake Central to win two games and capture the Sebastopol tournament championship.
After losing 50-30 to Leake Central on Tuesday, Union bounced back to beat Sebastopol 35-33 and then beat Newton County 52-40 on Saturday.
Union is scheduled to return to action this week as they host Sebastopol on Tuesday and West Lauderdale on Thursday. They will finish up the week on Friday as they host Noxapater.
Union boys 52, Newton County 40
The Yellowjackets outscored the Cougars in every period as they held on for a 12-point win on Saturday in the championship game of the Sebastopol Tournament.
Union held a tight 11-10 lead at the end of the first period while the Yellowjackets led 19-14 at the half. The scoring picked up in the second half as Union outscored County 11-8 in the third and 22-18 in the fourth.
Jamarkus Jones led Union with a game-high 16 points while Kenyon Clay and Dorian Hunter each had eight points apiece. E.J. Campbell had seven points while Dylan Harrison added six points.
Jamaal Croft led Newton County with 13 points while Jared Thames had 11 points. Sebastian Johnson also had eight points for the Cougars.
Union boys 35, Sebastopol 33
The Yellowjackets held on to take a two-point win over the homestanding Bobcats on Thursday night.
Sebastopol jumped out to an 8-5 lead before Union outscored the Bobcats 9-2 in the second to lead 14-10 at the half. The Bobcats outscored the Yellowjackets 10-9 in the third to cut the lead to 23-20 going to the fourth. Sebastopol took the fourth 13-12 and missed a three-pointer in the end as Union held on to take the win.
Jamarkus Jones led Union with 13 points while Jada Russell had seven points. Dylan Harrison and Kenyon Clay each had six points apiece.
Leake Central boys 50, Union 30
The Gators broke free in the second half and took a 20-point win over the Yellowjackets on Tuesday.
Leake led 9-8 at the end of the first and 21-17 at the half. But the Gators pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Yellowjackets 15-9 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth to take the win.
E.J. Campbell led Union with nine points while Jamarkus Jones had seven points and Kenyon Clay added six points.
