The Newton County Academy fast-pitch softball team improved to 6-3 on the season with a pair of wins this week on the diamond.
The Lady Generals opened the week with a 9-3 win over Kemper Academy and then shut out Prentiss Christian 7-0 on Tuesday.
NCA’s only scheduled game this week is a Tuesday contest against Brookhaven Academy.
NCA 9, Kemper 3
The Lady Generals scored six runs in the second inning and cruised to a six-run win over Kemper on Monday.
NCA scored one in the first, six in the second and two in the fourth. Kemper scored two in the third and one in the fourth.
The Lady Generals had five hits in the contest and drew three walks. Belle Hollingsworth was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs while Kelli Hollingsworth also drove in three runs. Jordan Russell singled and scored a run while Kaleigh Cosgrove had a single and scored three times. Cosgrove was hit by a pitch twice and had a stolen base. Amber Garrison had two stolen bases.
Riley Usry got the start and pitched five innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks.
NCA 7, Prentiss 0
The Lady Generals used a six-run second inning and a dominant pitching performance to blank Prentiss on Tuesday.
NCA scored on in the first and six in the second for their runs.
The Lady Generals had eight hits in the contest as Abbie McGee was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Kelli Hollingsworth singled and scored twice. Belle Hollingsworth and Riley Usry each had singles and drove in a run. Amber Garrison, Jordan Russell and Marla Graham each singled and scored a run.
Taylor Evans got the start on the mound and was dominant, pitching all seven innings and giving up two hits and striking out 10 for the win.
