Longtime Newton educator Gina Hollingsworth has been named the area director of Mississippi Professional Educators. She will serve educators in Newton, Scott, and Lauderdale counties.
"After I retired from teaching, I knew I wanted to stay in education, so I followed a different avenue to be able to be an advocate for over 600 teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals and students in college majoring in education," Hollingsworth said.
Hollingsworth has lived in Newton County her entire life and has two children, Cody and Bennett. She is a graduate of East Central Community College and Mississippi State University, and is a National Board Certified teacher. She has been a teacher for 30 years and is excited for her new role in the organization and visiting schools in her area throughout the year. Hollingsworth will also serve as an English language arts tutor at Conehatta Elementary School.
Founded in 1979, Mississippi Professional Educators is a statewide professional organization whose members come from all aspects of the educational systems in Mississippi and is an alternative to union participation.
