The Newton County Academy Lady Generals tipped off the basketball season last week with a pair of wins.
NCA beat the Meridian Home School Lady Flyers 47-37 and then beat Kemper Academy 51-46.
NCA is scheduled to return to action this week as they host the Laurel Nighthawks on Thursday.
NCA girls 47, Meridian Home School 37
The Lady Generals doubled up the Lady Flyers in the first half and cruised to a 10-point win in the season opener.
NCA jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first period and then outscored Meridian 14-9 in the second to take a 27-13 lead at the half. NCA took the third period 14-13 to extend the lead to 41-26 going to the fourth. Meridian took the fourth period 11-6 for the final margin.
Adriane Luke led NCA with 18 points while Piper Collins had 11 points. Lillian Nutt and Maggie Vance each had six points apiece.
NCA girls 51, Kemper 46
The Lady Generals used a big third period to come from behind to take a five-point win over the Lady Rams.
Kemper outscored NCA 12-8 in the first and 10-9 in the second to led 22-17 at the half. But the Lady Generals then outscored the Lady Rams 19-5 in the third and took a 36-27 lead into the fourth period. Kemper took the fourth period 19-15 for the final margin.
Sydnee Cosgrove had a big night for the Lady Generals, leading the team with 20 points. Addison Mathis had 11 points while Adriane Luke had nine points. Lillian Nutt had six points while Piper Collins had five points.
