The Union Lady Yellowjackets won two out of three games last week at the Lamar School Christmas Tournament.
The Lady Yellowjackets opened up the tournament with a 42-31 win over Presbyterian Christian and then beat Sylva Bay 54-37 to advance to the finals.
The Lady Yellowjackets then lost 53-25 to MAIS power Jackson Academy in the tournament finals.
Union will return from the Christmas break and open up Division 6-2A play as they host Scott Central on Tuesday, Jan. 5. They will then be off until Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Lake.
Union girls 42, Presbyterian Christian 31
The Lady Yellowjackets pulled away in the middle two periods and took an 11-point win over to Lady Bobcats on Monday
Both teams scored seven points in the first period and Union outscored PCS 9-5 in the second to lead 16-12 at the half. Union continued to extend its lead in the second half as the Lady Yellowjackets outscored the Lady Bobcats 12-7 in the third and 14-12 in the fourth.
Kamyia Russell led Union with 11 points while Madison Buckley had 10 points. Keshona Smoot also added nine points.
Union girls 54, Sylva Bay 37
The Lady Yellowjackets dominated the first half and took a 17-point win over the Lady Saints on Tuesday.
The Lady Yellowjackets started fast as they led 15-6 at the end of the first period and then outscored the Lady Saints 13-6 in the second to lead 28-12 at the half. Sylva Bay outscored Union 16-10 in the third as the Lady Yellowjackets led 38-28 going into the third. Union then pulled away in the fourth period, outscoring Sylva Bay 16-9 in the fourth to take the win.
Keirra Russell led Union with 15 points while Keshona Smoot had 14 points. Kamyia Russell also chipped in eight points.
Jackson Academy 53, Union 25
The Lady Raiders dominated the first three periods and won the Lamar Christmas Tournament on Wednesday.
The Lady Raiders started strong as they outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 16-6 in the first period and 13-8 in the second to lead 29-14 at the half. JA put the Lady Yellowjackets away in the third period, outscoring Union 19-3 to lead 48-17 going to the fourth.
Kamyia Russell led Union with nine points while Keirra Russell had seven points and Taniqua Hunter added six points.
