It was a perfect storm for the Lake Hornets on Friday night.
The Hornets fell behind early and managed just 32 yards of total offense as Forest rolled to a 37-0 win.
Lake falls to 0-1 on the season and will travel to rival Sebastopol on Friday night looking for their first win of the season.
Lake coach Tate Hanna said the Bearcats came out and dominated from the beginning.
“I thought they had a good game plan for us and a good game plan for the field conditions,” Hanna said. “They came out and hit us in the mouth and we didn’t respond. We couldn’t get anything going on offense. It was wet and a crazy night for football. The clock wasn’t working so you didn’t know what was going on. I just don’t think we were ready to play or prepared to play that type of game. They were just more physical than us from the go and were pretty good at what they were doing. We are little but quick on defense and people are going to do that to us until we get down and stop it.”
Forest got the opening kickoff and went 74 yards in 10 plays and scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass. The try for two failed and Forest led 6-0.
Lake then went three and out on offense and Forest went 33 yards in four plays and scored on a 38-yard touchdown pass. The try for two failed again and Forest led 12-0.
Lake went three and out on its next two possessions and Forest scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter. They scored the two-point conversion and led 20-0.
After swapping interceptions, Forest got a safety to go up 22-0 and then scored on a 6-yard run before the half to go up 30-0. They added a 16-yard run early in the third to take a 37-0 lead to get the clock running.
“I thought our defensive line has played tremendous the last two weeks,” Hanna said. “We have had some great efforts against two really good teams. We had some young guys, like Chris Coffee come in and play really well. There were some positive but lots of negatives that we have to work on as we go forward.”
Lake had just 27 yards rushing and five yards passing for just 32 yards of total offense. Tristan Harris led the Hornets with 48 yards rushing on four carries.
On defense, Jamarrion Blaylock led Lake with 8.5 tackles, including four tackles for loss. Benjamin Moorehead had eight tackles and four tackles for loss while Chris Coffee had eight tackles and two tackles for loss. Landon Harris had five tackles and an interception while Mitez Ickom had five tackles and two tackles for loss. Jeremiah Mayers and Jonahvan Hawkins each had 4.5 tackles for loss while 40 had three tackles and two tackles for loss.
