SCOTT CENTRAL 42, NEWTON 6
The Newton Tigers dropped another contest last week, falling 42-6 to Scott Central and dropping their 21st straight contest.
The Tigers fall to 0-9 on the season and will travel to Clarkdale on Thursday night. The winner of the game will make the Class 2A playoffs as the No. 4 seed out of Division 5-2A.
Scott Central improved to 5-4 on the season.
The Rebels got the ball to start the game and needed just three plays to find the end zone, scoring on a 34-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was blocked and Scott led 6-0.
Newton went three and out and Scott Central needed just three plays to go 54 yards. After a 42-yard pass, the Rebels scored on a 1-yard run with 8:13 left in the first quarter. The try for two failed and Scott Central led 12-0.
After a short punt by Newton, Scott central appeared to score but fumbled the ball into the end zone. Newton then put together a nine-play drive but turned the ball over on downs.
The Rebels then went 35 yards in eight plays, scoring on a 1-yard quarterback sneak to go up 20-0 after the two-point conversion.
The Rebels added two more scores on touchdown runs of 3 and 36 yards in the first half to lead 35-0 at the break.
Newton got the ball to start the second half and drove to the Scott Central 38 before turning the ball over on downs. Scott Central then scored on a 31-yard pass to make the score 42-0.
Newton then scored on the ensuing kick as Tazayvion Townsend returned the kick 94 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds left in the third quarter. The try for two failed and Scott Central led 42-6 for the final margin.
On defense, Detraun Brown and Jimare Kincaid each had nine tackles apiece while Jamarion Brown had seven tackles. Sedrick Harris and Jalish Hughes each had had five tackles apiece while Jamarcus Holder and Marcus Hardy had four tackles. Floyd Smith, Daishon Moncrief, Jamarcus William, Je’cariyus Hornsby and Chrisun Leverette each had three tackles apiece while Jeremiah Johnson had two tackles.
