The Lake Lady Hornets defended their Division 5-2A championship last week by knocking off Kemper County in the tournament finals on Friday night.
The Lady Hornets finally took down senior-laden Kemper County and beat the Lady Wildcats 48-45 on Friday night to claim the 5-2A crown.
The Hornets lost 47-43 to Kemper in the 5-2A semifinals but rebounded to beat Philadelphia 49-42 in the consolation game and finish as the No. 3 seed.
The Lake girls, now 19-9 on the season, will host Loyd Star on Monday in a 6 p.m. contest while the Lake boys will hit the road and play at Bogue Chitto on Tuesday.
Lake girls 48, Kemper 45
The Lady Hornets avenged two regular-season losses and took a three-point win over the Lady Wildcats on Friday night.
Brooke Harris had a double-double to lead Lake with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. Kelis Odom also had 10 points and three steals while Alicia Oliphant had eight points and five rebounds. Laniesha Palm had seven points, nine rebounds and three steals while Taylor Clark chipped in five points and Lyric Lay had five steals.
Lake girls 61, Newton 44
The Lady Hornets defended their home court as they pulled away and beat the Lady Tigers on Thursday in the 5-2A semifinals.
Taylor Clark led Lake with 16 points and five rebounds while Laneisha Palm had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kelis Odom had eight points while Brooke Harris had eight points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Lake girls 71, Nanih Waiya 50
The Hornets built an early lead and rolled to a 21-point win over the Warriors on Tuesday at the 5-2A Tournament.
Lake led 15-8 at the end of the first period and then outscored Nanih Waiya 18-12 to lead 33-20 at the half. Lake continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Nanih Waiya 23-17 in the third to lead 56-37. Lake finished by outscoring the Warriors 14-13 for the final margin.
Cameron Hunt led Lake with 25 points while Curly Robinson had 24 points. Caden Moss had eight points while O’Darius Johnson had five points.
Kemper County boys 47, Lake 43
The top-seeded Wildcats held off the Hornets to take a four-point win in the tournament semifinals.
Kemper led 7-5 at the end of the first and 17-16 at the half. Lake then outscored Kemper 13-12 in the third to tie the game at 29-29. Kemper then outscored Lake 18-14 for the final margin.
Curly Robinson led Lake with 17 points while Cameron Hunt had 14 points.
Lake boys 49, Philadelphia 42
The Hornets built an early lead and held on to take a seven-point win over the Tornadoes on Friday in the consolation game of the 5-2A Tournament.
Lake jumped out to a 12-7 lead and then outscored Philly 12-8 to take a 24-15 lead at the half. Philly then outscored Lake 13-10 in the third to cut the lead to 34-28. Lake took the fourth period 15-14 for the final margin.
Curly Robinson led Lake with 21 points while Cameron Hunt had 14 points.
