The Newton County Academy Lady Generals completed their domination of District 2-3A this past week.
After going unbeaten in district play in the regular season, the Lady Generals beat Kemper Academy 51-25 on Thursday and Calhoun Academy 46-31 on Saturday to capture the 2-3A title.
The Generals lost to Kemper 32-29 on Thursday and then beat Calhoun 41-33 in the consolation game to finish third.
The NCA girls, now 20-3 on the season, will get a first-round bye in the North 3A Tournament, which will be hosted by Kemper Academy. The Lady Generals will play Thursday at 4 p.m. in a second-round game.
The Generals were the No. 3 seed from District 2 and will play Delta Streets on Monday at 5:15 p.m.
NCA girls 46, Calhoun 31
The Lady Generals pulled away in the second half and took a 15-point win over the Lady Cougars on Saturday to capture the district championship.
NCA outscored Calhoun 9-8 in the first and 12-11 in the second and led 21-19 at the half. The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Cougars 9-1 in the third and 16-11 in the fourth to take the win.
Cayden Alexander led NCA with 14 points while Macie Woodham had 11 points and Lilly Hollingsworth had 10 points. Emme Reese also had nine points.
NCA boys 41, Calhoun 33
The Generals outscored the Cougars in every period and took an eight-point win in the consolation game on Saturday.
NCA led 6-4 at the end of the first and then outscored Calhoun 10-8 in the second to lead 16-12 at the half. NCA continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Calhoun 11-8 in the third and 14-13 in the fourth.
Trace Evans had a big game for NCA with 13 points and 15 rebounds while Jackson Bunyard had 13 points. Both Evans and Bunyard made the all-tournament team.
NCA girls 51, Kemper 25
The Lady Generals dominated the first half and took a 26-point win over the Lady Rams on Thursday.
NCA started fast and outscored Kemper 19-5 in the first and 15-5 in the second to lead 34-10 at the half. NCA extended its lead by outscoring Kemper 11-5 in the third to lead 45-15. Kemper took the fourth 10-6 for the final margin.
Lilly Hollingsworth led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points while Macie Woodham and Cayden Alexander each had 10 points apiece.
Kemper boys 32, NCA 29
The Generals forced overtime but fell to the Rams on Thursday in the semifinal of the district tournament.
Kemper led 4-2 at the end of the first and each team scored 11 points in the second period as the Rams led 15-13 at the half. NCA then outscored Kemper 9-8 in the third and 7-6 in the fourth to end the game into overtime. But Kemper outscored NCA 3-0 in the overtime to take the win.
Jackson Bunyard led NCA with 10 points while Noah Agent added eight points.
NCA girls 58, Wayne 39
The Lady Generals started fast and cruised to a 19-point win over the Lady Jaguars on Monday to finish the regular season.
NCA doubled up Wayne and led 16-8 at the end of the first and then outscored Wayne 15-4 in the second to lead 31-12 at the half. NCA outscored Wayne 16-12 in the third while the Lady Jaguars took the fourth period 15-11 for the final margin.
Emme Reese had a big night for the Lady Generals with 16 points while Cayden Alexander had 11 points. Lilly Hollingsworth also had nine points while Addie Bergeron chipped in six points.
