The Newton County girls won two out of three games last week.
The Lady Cougars opened the week with a 50-41 win over Union and then lost 70-51 to Leake Central on Tuesday. They finished the week with a 60-25 win over Southeast Lauderdale.
The Cougars lost two of three games. After beat Union 65-50, the Cougars lost a pair of tight games, falling 63-58 to Leake Central and 43-42 to Southeast Lauderdale.
Newton County only schedule game this week is a Tuesday contest at Sebastopol.
County girls 50, Union 41
The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Yellowjackets in each of the last three periods to take a nine-point win.
Union led 14-13 at the end of the first but Newton County then outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 17-11 in the second to take a 30-25 lead at the half. Newton County then outscored Union 10-9 in the third and 10-7 in the fourth.
Gracyn Tillman led Union with 17 points while Kylee Madden had nine points. Rymia Craft had seven points, 13 rebounds and three assists while Anna Shaw had six points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Felicia King led County with 15 points while Kelcei Thomas had 11 points and Sha Jimmie added 10 points. Tally Nickey had seven points while Dazzle Tubby added six points.
County boys 65, Union 50
The Cougars pulled away in the second half and took a 15-point win over the Yellowjackets.
Each team scored 10 points in the first period and County outscored Union 18-17 in the second to lead 28-27 at the half. Newton County then outscored Union 19-14 in the third and 18-9 in the fourth to take the win.
U’Darrian Hickman led Union with 16 points while Keon Hutchins had 12 points. Micheal Buffington and Kamarion Rushing each had nine points apiece.
Keaton Gray led Newton County with 27 points while Dresen Jimmie had 12 points. Toby Billy and Dasen King each had six points apiece.
County girls 60, Southeast Lauderdale 25
The Lady Cougars started fast and finished strong as they took a 35-point win over the Lady Tigers.
County jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the first period and led 29-15 at the half. County continued to extend its lead in second half, outscoring Southeast 13-8 in the third and 18-2 in the fourth.
Kelcei Thomas led Newton County with 14 points while Dazzle Tubby had 13 points. Felisiah King had eight points while Maeli Ben had seven points and Ariel Hurst chipped in six points.
Southeast Lauderdale boys 43, County 42
The Tigers took a one-point win over the Tigers in a tight contest last week.
Newton County led 16-13 at the end of the first while Southeast outscored the Cougars 13-7 to take a 26-23 lead at the half. Southeast extended the lead to 36-32 at the end of the third while Newton County took the fourth period 10-7 for the final margin.
Dresen Jimmie led Newton County with 15 points while Sebastian Johnson had 10 points.
Leake Central girls 70, County 51
The Lady Gators outscored the Lady Cougars in every period and took a 19-point win.
Leake led 17-13 at the end of the first and outscored Newton County 19-10 in the second to lead 36-23 at the half. Leake then outscored Newton County 12-11 in the third and 22-17 in the fourth.
Dazzle Tubby led Newton County with 17 points while Shae Jimmie and Maeli Ben each had seven points apiece and Felicia King added six points.
Leake Central boys 63, County 58
The Gators outscored the Cougars in three of the four periods and took a tight five-point win over the Cougars.
Leake led 18-15 at the end of the first while Newton County outscored the Gators 12-11 in the second to cut the lead to 29-27 at the half. But Leake outscored newton County 17-16 in the third and 17-15 in the fourth.
Keaton Gray led Newton County with 15 points while Sebastian Johnson had 13 points and Dasan King had 12 points. Jaylen Torguson had eight points while Dresen Jimmie added seven points.
